Recognize WOW

Use this page to learn how to assess a resume: content, style, and format.

About the Scoring Guide

Within the Scoring Guide there are three colums that show different parts of a resume:
  • Appearance - how a resume looks
  • Basics - the essential parts of a resume
  • Content - skills, experience, and education
Along the left-hand side of the document, from top to bottom, rows 1-5 show the rating scale from best to worst:

1 = Do it over
2 = Needs work

3 = OK

4 = Good

5 = WOW!

How to Use the Scoring Guide

  • Identify where you are in Job Corps (Career Prep, Career Development, Career Transition)
  • Set your goal for a score based on the amount of job experience you have that relates to the position you are applying for (for example, do you have 1, 2 or more than 2 job experiences that relate)
  • Review the scoring guide before you begin your resume
  • Use the scoring guide as a checklist when your resume is done
